abstract = "Estuaries are one of the most important and dynamic ecosystems
included in the coastal zones, presenting high environmental
sensitivity. The dynamics of Guajar{\'a} Bay, located in the
Par{\'a} Rivers estuary at northern Brazil, was evaluated by
multitemporal analysis compering Landsat images produced between
1984 and 2008. The multitemporal analysis revealed expressive
changes of the bays morphology, mainly as a result of accretion
and erosion of coastline zones triggered by hydrodynamics
processes combined with anthropic actions. We used an alteration
detection algorithm operated in the software PCI Geomatics 2012,
using Land-water QA Band as input data. This data is part of
Landsat Surface Reflectance High Level Data Products, made
available by USGS in mid-2016. The processing results generated a
trimodal raster that indicates accretion, erosion and
non-alteration areas in the shoreline. Using the identified
alteration pattern for the Guajar{\'a} Bay, the comparative
results indicated that the western margin was intensely eroded,
with removal of 130 hectares of land whereas the eastern margin
was accretioned with 87 hectares of sediments. The use of QA Bands
revealed an operationally economical procedure that allows quick
and gratuitous medium-scale geomorphological analysis of
small-size estuarine settings, providing a better understanding of
                         coastal zone dynamics during Holocene.",
